ZAMEC LAUNCH POSTPONED TO FACILITATE CONSULTATION WITH GOVERNMENT

The Media Liaison Committee (MLC) would like to announce that the launch of the Zambia Media Council (ZAMEC), which was scheduled to take place on World Press Freedom Day (WPFD) that falls on May 3, 2011, has been postponed in order to take into account government’s concerns, expressed by the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, Lt. Gen. Ronnie Shikapwasha yesterday.

The Minister emphasised that government was a major stakeholder in the establishment of an effective self-regulatory system and, therefore, its views should be taken on board. The MLC would like to inform the public that dialogue with the government over the establishment of an effective self-regulatory mechanism that is able to enforce its decisions effectively is on-going.
